Columbia University
Val d’Isère 2020

Hiie Saumaa (Ph.D., Columbia University) is a movement educator and dance scholar. She is a certified instructor of several mind-body techniques, such as Nia dance, the BodyLogos Technique, and JourneyDance. Her specialty is somatics, or forms of movement that pay as much attention to the inner world as the physical movement of the body. She teaches courses and classes in sensory-based dance modalities, creativity in movement, expressive arts, meditative strength training, and somatic awareness. Her dance writings explore interconnections between dance, movement imagination, somatics, and creativity. She is currently completing a book on the unpublished writings, artwork, and multi-arts creativity of the American choreographer Jerome Robbins. She will lead daily dance workshops in Val d’Isère, exploring the paradoxical nature of Ubiquity!
