As Director of Research Emeritus at CEA, Jean Jouzel’s work has primarily focused on the reconstruction of past climates based on analyses of Antarctic and Greenland ice cores. A scientist committed to preserving the environment and taking political action, Jouzel was the lead author of the second and third reports of the IPCC and vice-chairman of the working group dedicated to scientific elements. He chaired the High Council for Science and Technology (HCST) from 2009 to 2013. In 2002, Jouzel received the CNRS Gold Medal and was awarded in 2012 the Prince Albert II Foundation Prize, as well as the Vetlesen Prize, considered a “Nobel Prize in geophysics and geology”. He has also been a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) since 2011 and was made Commander of France’s Legion of Honor and Commander of the Order of Merit.
