Rima Hassan was born and raised in Syria’s Neirab refugee camp. This former Palestinian refugee, now a naturalized French citizen, sees herself as a “counter-power to places of detention.”
Frustrated with not being able to find more information about the camp where she used to live with her mother and five siblings, she founded the Refugee Camp Observatory in 2019. Its mission: to study, investigate, and raise awareness about the places where exiled people are put in camps around the world.
Rima Hassan will enlighten us what it means to be stateless, and tackle the question of how to govern people who do not belong to any nation, especially at a time of global migration.
